when a used car advertised says this what does it actually mean?? (1)does it mean they will only sell to people within the trade or (2)that the car was a trade in and are selling it the way it was traded in to them???thanks

It means they'll offer no warranty on it or any guarantees that there's nothing wrong. Because of this it should be available cheaper than other similar cars.

It can mean a few different things. Its usually when a garage deems the car "un-retailable" i.e. they dont think its worth cleaning up to put in the showroom.

Generally, a trade sale will have -
    A - Mental Mileage

B - A problem the selling garage deems too expensive to repair in terms of the value of the car

C - Will have body damage consistant with the above

D - The selling garage will just want ride of it - maybe it is a completely sale proof car.

Beaware of these cars. They may sound like good value, but they wont have a warranty, and you will have very little comeback in the event of a problem.

I'd advise you to take a good mechanic with you to view the car if you are anyway unsure of yourself.

This is the car in question, doesnt specify mileage,so i take it there must be an issue with the mileage on it  i'll enquire anyways just out of curiosity:D

It looks fairly straight so i'd say it may be the mileage in question here....

Thanks for the honest and open reply. :)

Advice for a private buyer: there is no comeback at all. There IS a reason it is cheap and it is marked "trade only".

Looks like a nice enough car and going very cheap , I would be interested in knowing why as well

I'd call the dealer and see if the sale really is "trade only".

If it's truely trade only then there's probably not much need to advertise it online - the garage should have a list of trader's contact numbers.

If it is a car that they're prepared to sell to a private person on "trade only" conditions then I'd be well suspicious of it. That being said, I don't think it's legal for a dealer to sell a proper "trade sale" to a non-trade punter.

I think it needs more investigation.
