    I need a few suggestions.

She will be using it for presentations, word processing, surfing etc., and has a budget of up to 600-700 EUR for everything (including MS Office, though she isn't totally adverse to using Open Office). Ideally, this laptop will do her for a number of years.

    Thanks

GET a dell 2.oghz dual core intel cpu,at least 200gig harddrive 3gig ram .GO for the extended warranty. One that has vga AND hdmi out might be handy for presentation.GET one with a 17inch widescreen screen, non shiny screen.JUST go 4 a standard intel graphics card, avoid gaming laptops,as these tend to be louder ,they run hotter.DOWNload openoffice,it reads all office files,no need to spend money buying ms office.
you can get good deals in the dell outlet store ,on laptops.INSTALL drivermax, it backs up all pc drivers to folder my drivers, copy that folder to 2 cdr disks.see here http://outlet.dell.com/Emea_Dfo/EuDispatcher?country=IRL&target=InventoryPage&lob_constraint=INSP, inspiron 737 17inch screen ,spec 2gig ,just add on 1gig ram to the order, price 665.I DONT KNOW if that includes vat.the os is vista.it doesnt say if screen is widescreen.
look at dell.ie home laptops 4 more detailed info on laptop specs.
you may get one cheaper online, but dell has got a great backup/repair network in ireland,if anything goes wrong in future.I UNDERSTAND laptopdirects.ie has cheaper models,if you are going purely on price.
