    The department of Communications, Energy and Natural Reourses (DCENR) is currently inviting suggestions from the public in a major review of what sports should be Freely available to all via Television Broadcasts.

    Major Events TV Coverage review

    Section 9 of the Broadcasting (Major Events Television Coverage) (Amendment) Act 2003, provides that a review must be undertaken not later than 3 years after the passing of that Act of the events designated under section 2 of the Broadcasting (Major Events Television Coverage) Act 1999, by Order dated 13 March 2003, as events of major importance to society for which the right of a qualifying broadcaster to provide coverage on a free television service should be provided in the public interest.

    The events currently designated are listed in the Order dated 13 March 2003 , listed below. Submissions are invited on the designated events and the possible designation of additional events.

    LIVE
    · Summer Olympics
    · All-Ireland Senior Football & Hurling Finals
    · Ireland's –
    § qualifying games in the European Football Championship & World Cup
    § opening games, the semi-finals and the final of the European Football Championship Finals and the FIFA World Cup Finals Tournament
    § games in the Rugby World Cup Finals Tournament
    · The Irish Grand National and the Irish Derby
    · The Nations Cup at the Dublin Horse Show

    DEFFERED
    · Ireland's games in the Six Nations Rugby Football Championship

    The closing date for receipt of submissions is 29th May 2009. Submissions may be provided by any of the following means:

    · In hard copy to Major Events Coverage, Broadcasting Policy Division, Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, 29 – 31 Adelaide Road, Dublin 2.
