Anyone having problems with USB hubs?

My DAW has always been tower based, now I'm laptop centred I've encountered an issue. I've got more toys looking for ports than my Macbook has USB slots. I'm also a little anxious about taxing the power supply on the laptop so I'm considering a powered USB hub. Anyone else using them got any pointers or warnings?

Hubs are ok with standard devices - just don't use a hub with anything like soundcard/dsp - some can take exception.
