I thought you weren't meant to use both together during racing i.e. use either water and gels or energy drinks.
However, I picked up a High5 flyer in my LBS, which recommends using High5 gels and drinks together during racing. Can this only be done with High5 products or am I misinformed in the first place?

Not sure about the high5 myslef , the gels i'm using need to be taken with water, i'd advise reading the info on the gel , maybe they are designed that way. Or contact the makers to get some info?

I've wondered about the difference between gels and drinks too. Do they serve the same purpose? I'd prefer to take gel+water rather than drinks on their own. But do they serve the same purpose?

Some gels you are supposed to take with water but washing them down with an energy drink does not sound like a good idea to me.

Yeah, I've used the High5 gels and drinks together during triathlons, and found absolutely no problem. I followed a guide on the high5 website on how much to take and when.

What seems to be the logic is that you want to be drinking plenty on the bike, but dont want a bellyful of liquid for the run, so the gel just before the run does the job for a boost at that stage.

Even me, being a high quantity user of the gels, would not use them on something as short as a 10k. How long is a sprint tri?

    750m/20km/5km seems to be standard.
