The next time trial... Three Rock woods, the access road for the masts start at the bottom barrier around the second gate, and up to the final corner where the tarmac ends. its close to the city and has a good surface. (better than kippure, although its probably shorter.
no idea of a date, but we can fill another couple of pages arguing out a nice one.

Shay Elliot is a nice shape, and there are markings for 200m, 100m and the finish line.

If we did it on a weekend boards spin the distance wouldn't be a problem.

    Boo...
    Why not lengthen it?
Start at tha pub under the M50 bridge at the back of Marley Park (dont know the name), and head up by Stackstown Golf Club (Start is really steep) and then the road up joins up with the other on into 3 rock and then to the masts.

Taylors three rock. Yeah thats a bitch of a hill
Only worry with the 3 rock ascent is that it's often used by walkers, so we could be pi$$ing them off if there are many of them around at the time.

    What about this road? http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/ireland/enniskerry/299143756899

Oh yeah, now we're in heaven. Although we should probably skip that flat bit at the start.

It's not that bad. certainly no worse than kippure.

    That road is in bits.

I've only done the second half of it. It had a few holes, but nothing that can't be avoided.

The Three Rock one is close to Dublin and is a good climb, may as well start at the bottom though. There is one barrier on the way up that is closed, will require hopping over.

Road surface on Old Long Hill is fine although marshalling would really be necessary there for where it crosses the road half-way up.

I like this one myself, it is less of a pure killer hill, might be more interesting in a way.

I understand the safety concerns, but it would be nice to find something a bit longer than 3k.

Kippure was over before it started (and I was at the slow end).

We could do Edmonstown Road onto Cruagh Road. Starting at the roundabout near the M50 bridge.

We could also do Howth Hill :) yay!

Can someone map the Three Rock one? Think I know where it starts, but not sure beyond that.

The first half had a fair bit of gravel and holes on it the last time I rode up. Was hard to keep traction in places.

That's part of the fun. I had a spin out on the way up Kippure when I was passing over a gravel section near the end.

I see what you mean. I was more thinking that we don't want anyone falling off their bikes either.

I'd like to propose this route for some time also: http://www.mapmyride.com/route/ie/howth/189123996758593443

Gotta have at least one on DNS.

I think we should do a circuit of the climb up Edmonston Road, and then the descent down stocking lane -give us descenders a chance like :)

That road goes up to 13%? I didn't realise it was that steep.

At least you know that you're nearly there and can just bully your way up the last bit.

    Seconded ;)

Start from the car park, up steeper side & down the other side to the school?
Its 7km on the button, includes a downhill section for the nutters amongst us.

The thing about informal hill climb TTs is that they are relatively safe as the speeds you are going at are not crazy... If downhills were to be included in a "race" scenario I think you would want backup, insurance, etc. Circuits with same uphill/downhill won't be enough to make a difference to the slower climbers anyway.

A wheelbarrow for the body parts and a whip round for the next of kin ought to do it.

Safer than an alley cat, I would have thought.

It's not the same up/downhill, climb up one road and down the other

I presume you mean the lights at the junction of Offington Park & Carrickbrack Rd, to the summit. Its 4.2km bang on, so I presume thats it.
I'd be aiming at 12min on it myself, 8:43....animal :)

For the sake of us northsiders can it be on the northside.....please :)
