McAfee telling me DAT files are corrupt?

Convinced my computer has a virus. Tried to run a virus scan and it has decided to tell me that my DAT files are either missing or corrupted. Anyone have this problem before? I have McAfee version8.5 and its running on vista home basic. Head is melted here so any help really appreciated!
