"Jonny Wilkinson is holding discussions with French side Toulon about a big-money move in the summer. "

There is no questioning his talent but at this stage how much is he worth and how long of a contract would you give him?

With his history of injuries Toulon could end up with a very well paid kicking coach.

So assuming this goes through, Contepomi, we can assume, was signed for 12 rather than 10?

How it should be done. If it goes through and JW stays fit having Conter at 12 without the pressure of goal-kicking will be a huge help for his game.

If they have any sense he will be on a pay-for-play contract, i.e. a retainer fee and a sizeable fee for every match he plays. Has been dreadfully unlucky with injuries the last few years, so any team would be taking a big punt on signing him.

Why Wilkinson has stayed with such a sh1te team for all his career baffles me.

Not that Toulon are all that great...

I don't think they've offered him an actual salary to move, think they may just have offered to cover all his medical bills which by themselves should be in the six figure range. Bet he breaks something stepping off the plane and sits out the first half of the next season.

Not at the moment, a bit like Man City, but like Man City have the financial resources to move forward.

Newcastle on the other hand.....:rolleyes:

Money doesent buy you success. I'll never respect teams like Toulon or (soon enough) Saracens who turn a blind eye to grass roots and homegrown players and just try to fast track to success by bringing in big names.

If Wilko decides to go id prefer him to go to a club that has a chance of winning something. Have to admire his commitment to Newcastle (and their commitment to him) but seriously Toulon?

Good point. You mean big names like.... Doug Howlett? :p;)

You have to respect the man for staying with his club. There are more and more mercenary types out there, and comparisons to the premiership are becoming more apt. Hopefully Wilkinson is not the last of a dying breed.

I really, really wish Jonny played for a better team while he was still able to play. Without a doubt one of the most natural and brilliant fly-halfs to have ever graced the pitch.
