Up to 25 taxi drivers began a sit-in at the Taxi Regulator’s office in Dublin this afternoon as part of their ongoing protest about the issuing of further licences, which they claim is leading to a deterioration in their standard of living.

A review of the business on behalf of the Taxi Regulator earlier this year confirmed that incomes have fallen and that full-time drivers were working longer hours.

However, the regulator has disputed that the industry is in a state of collapse.

Maybe the same could be applied to other mikey mouse regulators??

I'll have you know that the Commission for Cartoon Rodent Regulation is a venerable and august institution which has remained scandal free in this most trying of times.

The regulator wants to give out more licenses for taxis so that we can have more badly needed taxis on our streets, and makes even more sense because there are 25 taxi drivers not doing their job and are sitting n the side of the road.

Where is this magical place where taxi's are badly needed? Seriously tell me because I would love to pass this on to a few friends of mine who are in big trouble moneywise at the moment.

If I look out my window at the rank across the street, there are 15 taxis waiting for fares, and the line has not moved in about an hour. I do feel sorry for them. I got a taxi yesterday, the guy said he had start 6 hours earlier and he had had 2 fairs.

to be honest i think its a joke the amount of taxis now, far too many. Th problem i have is the way the unions go about their protests, ie holding the city to ransom,. They should be more constructive in their protests and get the public support not aleniate them.

lower the prices, demand will go up. simple as. (also stop giving out licences or raise the price of a licence)
