Any decent cruises in Ireland

Last Friday (Good Friday) I was in the cinema watching Fast & Furious and decided on the way home to call over to Mullingar as apparently there was a cruise on (as most years) but when I got there, it was absolutely sh*t and thats putting it mildly. There was a Skyline GTR (1991 - and only evidence it was real was the badges because he never took it out of first), a few Galanzas, a crashed 06 Gti, and then it was more than the average amount of lads driving their daddy's cars, or vans. I'd like to also point out very few of these were modified from standard.

I remember about three years ago attending a cruise in Naas and you seriously couldn't take in all the cars at it. Every five minutes there seemed to be a new car on the scene and the night went smooth and it really was a sight to see. Has the recession hit the cruise scene? Or has interest in it just been lost? Or was that cruise just particularly lame?

Btw mods this isn't a hate modified motors thread more of a debate starter on the apparent decline on the cruise scene

i dont think you get cruises in the genuine modified community anymore.

you will get meets from the likes of www.dtdirl.com or the motors section of here and many others where they are civilised meets, no messing, no show boating etc etc

most proper enthusiasts would attend "meets" - far from a cruise, like kceire said, no messing or **** and most of all none of the knob ends that give the rest of us a bad name

its dying out which is a good thing, a lot of it is due to garda presence ive noticed, i havent been to a cruise in about 2 years because its not worth the hassle of all the checkpoints that do be near them!

There was an excellent one in Carlow the night of the Fast and Furious release, good line of 80 or 90 cars I seen heading off in a convoy, unfortunately I didn't have my 106gti and only had the almera so I wasn't going to join them :P

 Ok ok i tried, but i really needed to read your post backwards and forwards a couple of times to figure out what you were trying to say.
From your username it seems you might be Irish or maybe Scottish?
But is there any chance you might speak or type English?:D

Surely the demise of the cruise scene can only be seen as a positive thing for the real modified community

Cruises = a load of arse holes in clapped out 1litre to 1.4 litre cars with aeroplane wings attached to them and neon lights all over the place acting like total retards because they dont have the brains to understand anything else

Meet = a proper group of enthusiasts, who enjoy and know about there cars in a mature manner getting together somewhere quiet where they dont annoy anyone else to have a chat, talk about what they've done and what they plan to do and admiring each others cars.

I suggest you stay away from anything called a cruise and join up to some proper car forums to meet and get to know some proper people who know what there on about and aren't just out to act the ejit on the roads.

Over the years I've been on most of the forums at some stage and DTDirl is the only one I feel worth my time, the rest all have some element of the bad side of the scene within them.

It sure is, my comment said we've a thread on the topic, i didn't say which side i was on, only that i agree the meets with no messing are best, and that i'm working on one, akin to the old days. i enjoy the relaxed feel of MNC, but as with most enthusiast's i'm on 10plus forums, 3 mainly.

Organise a meet that drives around the ring of Kerry! that'd be something else :
    :D

Yeh I have myself on about 6 forums mostly car specific forums though and use DTDirl as my overall forum it works well for me :D

    what a night

Pictures including the white lightening Tshirts or i dont believe you :D

Thing's are a hell of alot different nowadays compared to 8/9 year's ago,15" tsw venoms were the **** (or stealths if you had a Hi Torque corolla!)icetronix was a ford escort van that took order's from the rear, and like you said, you would know everyone's face at a cruise and there was a good atmosphere about the place.

Even across the sites nowadays the community feeling isnt the same as times gone past and i doubt it will ever be the same again, there's too much bitching and backstabbing from people and way too many muppets around nowadays for it to be like it was
