I read in one of the papers last week (pretty sure it was the Indo) that Bernard Jackman was taking over as head coach of Clontarf. I dont see how he could combine playing with Leinster with coaching Clontarf. Any one heard anything?

He coached Coolmine last year while playing so it changes nothing.

Jackman is adored around Clontarf, just hoping that things wont change if the team doesn't perform.

Hopefully, he is one of the worst lineout throwers I have seen.

Think he looks very like John Hartson (ex Coventry City/Celtic/WBA) just as Denis Hurley looks very like Ricky Hatton (boxer)!

Prize for the most irrelevant comments ever?

While Jackman might look a bit like Hartson (i.e. have red hair and those weird see through eyelashes), I don't think Disco Denis would be too pleased to find out he looks like Vicky Fatton. Not even a little bit.

Disco Denis is Denis Hickie and always will be.

Don't care what he does - as long as he plays in the HC semi-final! Jackman and 'Two Steps' Whitaker are important to the inevitable outcome! :D

No he doesn't..............he looks like James Brown! :D

As for Jackman, most under rated player out there and amusing how his lineout is always presumed to be poor, when Leinster lineout has been better than Munsters (which was comical at the start of the season) and Flannery couldn't hit a barn door in the autumn internationals....plus he's better around the park than any other Irish hooker imo also...

I'd take him every time over Flannery or Best....

    As for Whitaker...well...no arguments there...

Ya he's poor alright, been a good servant of provincial rugby all the same.

Hmm, this is an interesting "Is Jackman Retiring?" thread.

This is RuggieBear's cue to come in with his good ol':

I'd much prefer Flannery over Jackman in fairness, Jackman promised a lot but never delivered in my opinion.

Sorry if my lookalike comments have taken this thread in a wrong direction. Personally I think Bernard Jackman is at his best in the loose but his lineout throwing is not as accurate as Rory Best's and for me it's a toss up between Jerry Flannery and Rory Best for the most consistent hooker at the moment in Ireland. Possibly Bernard Jackman is past his peak - remember him scoring an excellent try against Ulster at Ravenhill a few seasons back when he was with Connacht.

jackman has easily been one of leinsters best players over the last 2 seasons. I think his 'lineout problem' is highly exaggerated and usually based on his poor international appearances.

Jackman is a quality player and although I'm a huge fan I have to agree with those who point out the lineout problems, he can't seem to handle the pressure or should I say adrenaline when it comes to an important line out. Besides that weakness he is a class player.

What's beyond me is that they didn't just train someone else to throw the ball into the lineout, Its not as if Jackman wouldn't be able to lift.

Jackman is a quality player, he wouldn't be in the paid professional ranks if it were otherwise.

However, I would question his judgment.

The most recent penalty vs 'Quinns, walking around the Ruck & picking up the ball?

Then there's his "ruck clearout" incident...

    Flaky IMHO.

Actually just remebered at the end of last season / start of this season hearing a small rumour that Cian Healy was being trained as a hooker. (On the evidence of this season with Blaney getting a few games it has to be baired in mind that this may not be true - as Blaney is .... well, muck!!)

I think it would be an interesting choice if he was up to it.

A front row of CJ Van Der Linde, Cian Healy and Mike Ross would be a very powerful unit!! Jackman has a year or two in him yet though and I'm happy with that.
