OK so I finally bite the bullet and got my first proper Mac.

    see here

Been wanting for ages, but never saw it through til now, as my Windows XP desktop basically threw a hissy fit 2 weeks ago and refuses to do anything....more later on that

apart from a few niggles here and there it's great. Completely new way of doing things for me, but thats half the fun.

here's the problem though, all my music is on said Windows XP desktop. Things won't boot into windows at all, (resets following bootin options screen) I appear to be able to get into OPensuse though, that I had loaded on it.

Basically I want to get all the music off the desktop onto the MacBook. If I can get the Desktop into OpenSuse, will I be able to to this in some wacky way?

I'm pretty sure there is some easy way to do what I want, but I appear to be completely missing it.......

Hi do you have opensuse loaded as a dual boot or are you running it off a CD? You will be able to access your files through opensuse or ubuntu as far as I know. You'll need an external harddrive to transfer it over to and that's about it. I'm not too sure how to do it in opensuse but here is a link how to do it with ubuntu Live CD:

I would just take the windows hard drive and pop it into an external enclosure and connect it to your mac

The external enclosure idea is one way I'd do it, or to use a linux live cd (knoppix or something) and copy files to an external hdd in there.

knoppix is definitely the easier way to go, just remember if you use it to turn the hard drive your writing to over to writable as it's read only as standard.
