If your considering a C4 then I would only consider the diesel HDi models, available in both 1.4 and 1.6 litre diesel afaik, these units are cracking engines with good fuel economy and generally very reliable. Just watch the usual Citroen frailties that early C4s suffer from, iffy electrics and patchy build quality. Citroen seem to have addressed these issues out in more recent models such as the latest C4 Picasso, C5 and C6 models.

I steer clear of the 1.4 and try for a 1.6Hdi. Much better engine.

Overall, they are not too bad. I have a friend who has a 05 one and he's had a lot of trouble with it recently (timing belt snapped, oil leak, not starting properly)

They are a fairly decent car, but some do have electrical problems.

Really, I seem to have a Bertie moment where I have no recollection of that event. ;)
