    Hi all,

I have a problem with my DS, have done since a little before xmas, and my avatar xmas games are gathering dust!! ;)

Basically my DS isn't charging. I have tried two chargers now to no avail.

When I plug in a charger the two green lights come on but only for a few seconds, then the charge light goes off. And of course my DS is out of power now :)

I keep meaning to take a battery from another DS and try it out, but haven't so far.

I don't have the weird screwdriver parts to open it either, pretty buggered aren't i :)

Anyway any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys 'n' gals.

plenty of choice @ Dealextreme, and options less than $6.

read the reviews for battery, and pick the best. Delivery is free and takes about 14 days typically.

Its more thank likely that your batteries are fine.

Get yourself a small phillips (cross-head) screw driver and open the battery compartment up. Pry out the battery with your nail or a screw driver.

With the battery out plug in the charger, the orange light should come on for a second or so. If it does not it is a problem with your charger or a fuse in your DS.

If you have tried two chargers this would obvioulsy make it more likely that it is a fuse problem. The fuse can be replaced but it requires soldering (intermediate level soldering i would say)

    F1 is the relevant fuse.

I would not recommend bridging the fuse! The fuse is there for a reason, if there is no fuse and the problem happens again, irreverable damage might be done to the DS.

I'm not in a position to offer my repairs because of college exams, but if you still haven't gotten it sorted by the middle of may or so please get in touch, the repair would be €25 + P&P. If your looking to get it repaired before hand give consolerepairsireland.com a shout and im sure they will be able to sort you out. Or if you want to chance it your self feel free to ask me some questions, im pretty busy so i might not be able to answer straight away but I should be able to help you out!.

EDIT: Op you say two green lights come on when you plug it in? The green light should only come on when the DS is on, the charging light is orange.

Apologies, I didn't have it with me when I was writing that so I was writing from memory! When I have it plugged in to the charger and turned on an orange and green light are visible. However it wouldn't stay on even while plugged in.

Funny thing is, I'm trying it now while plugged in and it seems okay...going to leave it on for the day and see if it holds a charge... strange...

    Experiment ho! :D

EDIT: Okay I've messed around with it some more. When plugged in and on, a green and orange light are on. When the DS is off but still plugged in, there are NO lights on. Whjen I pllug in the charger with the battery in the DS and it off, the orange light comes on for a half-second and then stays off. When I take out the battery and do the same thing, the orange light also comes on for half a second and stays off.

Judging by what you said, this probably means it is the battery not taking a charge, correct? Probably not, but you seem to know what you're talking about. Thanks for your help in this matter
    :)

    Thanks for the info.

    Ok that fuse is fine.

I'd still be very suprised to find out its your battery. for a couple of reasons

    1) A ds will not turn on with out a battery (we'll count the green light coming on as "turning on" for the minute)

    2) If your battery was not keeping charge it would be low, if you turned on the DS when its battery was low the power light would be red

EDIT: Also the reason the orange light isnt staying on when charging with the battery is in the DS is becasue it is probably fully charged :)

Is there any external damage done to the DS? A broken hinge or anything? Do you use a "flash card" (r4, DSTT , etc) ?

    Thanks for your response :)
Perhaps it is working okay now - leaving it alone for four months might have fixed it, heehee

Just for the record, I have witnesses who saw it not charging and shutting off by itself - I'm not crazy :p You can't prove nuthin'!

I will leave it on for the moment until it runs out of juice and attempt to charge it up again.

In answer to your question, no the DS is in perfect condition, no visible damage and none caused that I'm aware of. The only carts I use with it are the official DS and GBA carts, although I have been thinking of getting one of those flash ones :)

I will let you and the viewers at home know the results when I do.

Until then, have a good weekend.

EDIT: Oh also, the light before would be green for a few minutes then turn red, followed by the machine turning off, but it wouldn't charge, acting just like it does now when the charger was plugged in.
