I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the minute, I'm just about to finish my level 7 engineering degree and am trying to decide what to do next to get my level 8 qualification. I can either go on and do a fire engineering 4th year part time or I can do an open university course in Environmental Modelling with a view to getting into the area of waste managment. I would really love to do both, I have had an interest in fire since I was a child and found the module on fire we done this semester very interesting, I also know I would be very good at this line of work. On the other hand I would really love a career in an environmental related discipline and I think waste managment is a very important area and one which I think will have significant importance in the near future. The OU course would be harder and more expensive and I think the career prospects would be better in the long run whereas the Fire degree would be easier, cheaper and a lot less hassle, however I am not sure what the career prospects for this area are going to be like, it is in a way directly related to the construction industry.
Has anybody any advice or views on either of of these career paths?
