Civic and my lack of MP3 connection

    Hi folks,
I've a quick question for you please.
    I recently purchased a 2008 Civic type R.
I have a sony mp3 player which has bluetooth.
Whilst Honday have a kit available for mp3 players, it is only for the Ipod and its the princely sum of €400 odd.
I've heard mixed reports about the Parrot system (which I could use with the Bluetooth). Has anyone else got a simpler solution?
    Thanking you.
    Betty

An in-car FM transmitter is another possible solution.

I picked up an FM transmitter on ebay and whilst it looked good, the volume was crap.
I'm using a tape adaptor and its much better despite the cable hanging down (which I don't really notice now!)

FM transmitter's vary in quality mainly due to two factors. One is the quality of the tramsmitter itself, the other is the quality of the FM receiver on the radio. My FM transmitter in the Celica I used have with a factory fit Sony headunit used have to be placed strategically within the car for decent performance. In the Mazda it'll work comfortably anywhere.

The Parrot system works very good, i've seen it in operation, and i've had no problems with it in any of the cars we've fitted it to.

I think it comes in around the €350 mark, but for that you get a phone kit too.

www.jdm.ie would be able to sort something out. Looking through the website it looks like there is a Denison solution - although it may not be much cheaper than the Honda solution.

thank you very much one and all..
Drummerboy 08 - can you let me know of where I could get the parrot installed please? The Halfords (x2) I've visited do not fill me with confidence
Really appreciate the replies - thanks a million folks.

    I got this.

Except the version for my car. It's the bomb. Perfect clarity and has two cables - 1 to play/charge and ipod, and another normal jack that goes into any mp3 (even my phone). You just flick to it like you flick between radio or cd player on ur stereo.

Joe Duffy quoted me €150 to have it installed though, so i just found a radio removal guide online and did it myself.

If you decide to get it i'd do two things - contact a garge to see how much fitting would be (if you dont wanna do it yourself), and more importantly contact the ebay seller to ensure that it's the right thing for you (i.e. tell him type of car/radio/mp3 player)

Where are you based? I get a company called Sound Decision to do stuff like that for me - They are based in Clondalkin.

The guy who does it is very tidy and quick. He had the connection for the MP3 player hidden in a compartment in his Golf van, so you dont even have messy stuff going on on the dash.

If you in the South East, i have used a guy down there. He may be as good, if not better than the guys up here. My oul fella also uses him for anything he needs done.

If your interested, PM me and i'll send you the details.

Sound Decision will go out to you, as they have a mobile unit. Worth the call for a price at least!

Got a similar set up for my mitsubishi on ebay...took about 20mins to fit and has perfect sound quality...went through 2 fm transmitters, not worth a crap imo.

safesounds are on the bridge there as long as i can remember so they must me doing something right.

I wonder if your sony has bluetooth would you not scrap the ipod and load up the songs onto your phone and pair it with your stereo.

Just for the record i have three systems going:

In the car i have a pioneer mp5500 and i got a lead for 5 euro on ebay that goes into the blue multi changer socket on the back of the stereo and other end into my creative zen 40gig. hardest part was figuring out how to activate the aux feature on the stereo (hold in mode with stereo switched off!!!)

In the truck i use a sony tape interface. at €20 its the most expensive one i have bought but it does 30 hours a week for the last six months and still not a rattle out of it. The lady in the sony shop told me that the radio transmitter was the best way, but thats bull because with the distance i cover and the low frequency of the transmitter RTE1 keeps cutting in and you have to change the frequency of the transmitter.

Finally, the one i think may apply to you. In my bosses van I use my nokia 5800 musicxpress to bluetooth into the sony headunit and this works great. I wouldnt bother with the lousy nokia software, windows media player works just fine and with the 8 gig memory on the phone i can store quite a few playlists.

    hope this helps.
