I got a flyer through the door about a new beauty salon. They stated they had 50%** of treatments for the month of April. (**50% off applies to treatments totalling 50 euro or more). I had 2 treatments one costing 35 and one costing 18, totalling 53 euro. When I went to pay they told me that the 50% was off anything over 50 not the total bill. Is that what you would have picked up from the flyer? Felt a little put out but didnt want to cause a scene so just payed up.

When I glanced at the ad since it had the asterik and just noticed €50 or more I first thought "oh yeah the treatment has to be over €50.
When I re-read it though, it is pretty confusing. the "treatments totalling" would make you think that it can be from combined treatments.

They should have worded the flyer a little better. Although on the other hand, put an ad up like that - people will respond and like you most people will be too embarrassed to refuse to pay. That however is the cynic in me!!

Not much you can really do about it I'm afraid. You could write in to the salon manager and just express your view that the ad was misleading. If they have good customer service you'l get a reply and perhaps something like 10% off your next treatment. Some places might not even bother replying.
If you're super pissed off you could prob complain to the Advertising Standards Authority. Kinda harsh, but if you do think they are advertising like that to "scam" people then maybe.............

Other than that, just take the moral high ground and not go in again!!

Personally when I read that first my instant reaction was "oh 50 euro or more... that rules out all the small stuff so."

That said, it is open to misinterpretation because of the "totalling". Did you enjoy your treatments? Was it better than everywhere else local?

What I would do is contact the manager, explain the misunderstanding and see what they do. After all, 53 euro makes a dent in anyone's purse these days. If the manager doesn't offer you something ~15 euro or more, I'd take my business elsewhere.
