Grants for adult apprentices ?

right so Ive been a carpenter for a good few years, started when i was 17 back in 97, served through all the good times, left school the year of the leaving, money was great, i was living the dream
2009 the dream is over, i have no leaving cert to fall back on, i am the father of a one year old, and pay a lot on rent every month, typical 29 year old stuff

so since construction industry has gone belly up, i am looking to further myself, i don't fancy going to school again, i am a worker it makes me happy, and i like to be physically busy, so i was thinking of doing another apprenticeship, in aero mechanics, a stepping stone on the way to becoming an engineer in a few years, trouble is for the first few years the money is well crap, grand if i was a spotty teenager living at home, but that's not the case
i've heard the govt give grants of 1000's of euro if you go back to college, is there something in place for adults wanting to do apprenticeship's to supplement the meager wage ? surely the govt should encourage this type of activity
sorry for the long post :pac: thanks

AFAIK a new grant has been introduced for employers who take on apprentices who have been let go, but I know of nothing for apprentices.

Is your child living with you? Would you be eligible for Family Income Supplement?
