    Hi

Anyone knows if there is any way to get 'real' Realtime updates through RSS news Twitter etc. Its kinda funny how RSS feeds claim they are realtime but the fastest updating RSS reader I found is doing 1minute updates which is absolutely not realtime.

Not sure if there is any other way to get the updates in realtime especially from Twitter. I guess a newsreader that updates every second would help but ofcourse thats not good for the server.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

P.S. If there is no other way to get actual realtime updates except the delayed ones through Newsreaders can anyone recommend a RSS reader that at least can update every 30seconds instead of the 1min I use now.

I reckon Twitter is probably your best bet. There's loads of news feeds (such as RTE, BBC, etc) on it. For the Mac there's an app called Twitterrific which pops up whenever there's an update. That's what I use. I'm sure there's something similar available for Windows.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if your software is realtime? I know all the news readers work by 'pull' strategy meaning they periodically go to the website and check for news but they don't know whether or not there is an update. Thats why they are not realtime especially because most have update intervalls of minimum 1 minute up to hours.

Kinda curious if the software u use actually gets a signal from Twitter saying I got something new for you 'push' and these would be realtime.

I looked for a software like you described for Windows but couldn't find any strangely enough. Does your applet just say there is an update and you have to go to twitter to see the message or does the software also tell you the actual message?

Actually, no, it only checks for new "tweets" every 3 minutes, so it's not real realtime, sorry. But, yeah, it shows all the tweets within a bezel window and you can write your own tweets in it as well, very handy.

I'm not sure you'll find anything truly real time, but I suppose, if you wanted to get creative, you could set Twitter to send email updates to an push email account or something like that. I'm not sure it would make much of a difference in practice though. A minute is probably as good as it gets.

yeah 3minutes for my purposes is way too long unfortunately. Right now i am getting twitter via a RSS feed in a program called feedreader which can update every minute which is too long for me too but the best I could find.

I will try the email alert thing sent to google and have the google notifier applet running. probably interesting to see if Twitter sends out the emails as soon as there is an update.

    Thanks again
