Moral Dilemma

So basically this is another Social Welfare Thread. Myself and a mate are on it but still working part time... We get those yellow slips where you fill in which days you work and which days you don't and get paid accordingly. Now i found out recently that my mate claims the full ammount even though he works 3/4 days a week. He says he does it because there is very little chance of being caught and everyone else is doing it anyway and the country is screwing us so we may as well screw the country etc etc etc....

Now, this makes a bit of sense to me, i'm not in the worst financial situation by any matter of means but the extra few bob would be nice. It just doesn't sit well with me and i think that if people are doing this we may never get out of this recession, then again, what difference will I, one person make? Thoughts?

It just isn't one person though - your mate is doing it and probably other people.

Has your friend thought about the consequences if he was caught?

I doubt anybody here is as innocent as they claim to be. So stop looking down you're noses. My opinion on tax is thus:

If they don't ask for it, why should I volunteer to pay?

    My opinion on welfare:

Ask no questions, get no lies.

No, it's not the morally 'righteous' option so many here like to pontificate about. Yes, it is technically fraud. But quite frankly, compared to the fraud perpetrated on the people of Ireland by easy credit and the promise of easy living.... it's pretty bloody small. It's not worth caring about.

I asked him that... he reckons they don't check up on these things because they're so busy at the moment.

Of course its wrong, i don't think i could do it... but it is tempting i guess. It's all the more frustrating when this friend of mine actually has alot of money to begin with!

In all fairness mate, i've worked my ass off for 10 years now, and still am btw. Still contributing PRSI and Income Levy etc.

EDIT:// No chance of getting this moved back to AH? I feel that moving this here is not going to give a wider opinion....

I'm not talking about people who genuinely need to claim welfare, i'm talking about the people you spoke of, who are all screwing the system by claiming for days they're working aswell.

And yes, that is morally wrong. Its not the solution to the countries problems.

If you're still paying PRSI, then you're on the books, which (I hope) means they'd catch you.

its wrong wrong wrong, i just got my notice today, 12 years as a carpenter, had to be let go, cos were getting priced out of the market (of what little is there) by the dicks who are signing on and working full weeks for cash, charging less for jobs to do and will never be caught, you are better off unemployed in this ridiculous country of ours
    how fair is that
    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I blame the Government for punishing the honest guy and rewarding the crook.

was wondering about the nature of this thread till i saw it was moved here.

mrs pb16 tell me that there as many causal signings now as full timers and in her opinion there are no workplaces in her district that has full time workers anymore - scary.

Was surprised it was moved here tbh because its not really a question about the technicalities of social welfare and would be more suited to AH hours imo.

well i blame the crooks. and i blame the 'cute hoor' attitude where actions like this are tolerated by others, and not reported to the authorities.

the money comes from other taxpayers. end of.

We are not children, were adults and we are responsible for our own actions.
