I just received my first copy of the new RUNDIRECT ezine. Had a quick glance and it looks decent enough. Lots of photos etc (including an awe inspiring of Woddle modelling his new Boards singlet :D). I spotted a couple of very minor mistakes but it's a great first attempt and IMHO shows how lazy the Irish Runner magazine has become recently.

Going to have to get myself to a printer - used to hate trying to read massive pdf documents in college and this just gave me a flashback to them days!

Jees that PAUL FALLON guy going on about how using music is cheating. I dont know if he could have made himself sound more like a knob than he did.

yeah laughed at that myself. I know some race organisers have an issue with music due to safety etc, but to call it cheating is a bit left of field.

I don't know. I'd be in the anti-iPod brigade too, its just not right. I'd have to agree with him.

Overall, I think its a grand first issue and great to have more publications out there. But like the way when I read Irish Runner these days there is nothing there that I would be interested in reading or if I was I have already read it and the bit on track and field is straight from the AAI site (which is good as it widens its audience). But its market forces and if you look at sales of Runners World vs Athletics Weekly in the UK I'd imagine Runners World far outstrips it. Thats why we will never have an Athletics Weekly style mag here in Ireland, there just ain't the market. I think you probably have to go one way or the other (elite/club/national vs recreational/road runner) trying to mix is hard I'd imagine.

Looks like a sexier, flasher, livelier version of Irish Runner, but still Irish runner-esque all the same.

Good to have something to look forward to each month though:cool:

    Not by much really

AW - 15,000 weekly rising to 25,000 around big events
    RW - 88,597 pm
IR - but I don't ever seem to come across it, unless I see Frank giving it away at a race :pac:

Wow, am surprised by that, maybe there is a market for an Athletics Weekly publication then! Thats interesting numbers.

Think I'm going to save actually reading it for my next plane ride, but I did just have a quick glance though to see the RacePix365 section. Noticed Woddle managing to sneak into the "Intermediate Masters" section with his modeling portfolio though which made me laugh. :D

They should have used my "improved" version of that shot though. ;)

Weird, can't get to that web page either:

"The DNS server may be temporarily unavailable, or there could be a network problem."

No problems with my internet connection.

Possible that your ISP just doesnt know where their web page is yet as it is a new site, or something like that.

Apologies for the website falling over, was actually my fault, didn't think we'd get that much traffic. Tingle, on the irish-runner-esq thing... gives us a few months and then let me know what you think again. And anything you'd like to see in there drop me a line at mark@rundirectireland.com

    Happy running (with/without ipods :)

Good to hear. You could check out this http://hstfnews.wordpress.com/ as its by an Irish guy and is more Athletics Weekly than Runners World/Irish Runner and would tickle the fancy of many of the track and field people.

Suppose it a quiet time of the year for the 'Athletics Weekly' type content.
