    ok

    my insurance is due at the end of the month, so i decided to check my penalty points with the RSA in Ballina, I rang up and they told me i have none despite me being of possession of a letter which states i have 5 due to court conviction of careless driving. its about 2 years old the conviction.

    i am wondering what the story with telling the insurance companies as i shop around.

    do i have to tell the about my court conviction and if so for how long after the event.
    do i have to tell them about my 5 penalty points even though, they dont seem to have been applied to my file.

    I am going to ring the RSA tomorrow about the 5 penalty points and ask them for a letter confirming that i have none.

    the whole things completely mad.

    The OP said the conviction was 2 years ago;
    Aren't penalty points cleared after 2 years automatically - my 2 for speeding were, I don't know if there are different catogories of offences ie Dangerous driving penalty points might exist on your licence for 3 years. If all points are cleared after 2 years then this would explain the RSA saying there are none on your record - they've been deleted

    having took out the letter it clearly states 3 years on it.

    and it 2007 date on the letter.

    going to ring them and and ask for it in writing tomorrow and ill be covered then, if needs be.

    so how long does a driving conviction in court, need to be informed to a insurance compnay.

    Sounds like an administrative error to me.

    If you do have it corrected you might as well bend over a barrel and pull down your trousers

    The system is a joke, I have 2 penalty points, back in 07. I got them in april, but they were not applied until a few months after, so for me it is 3 years and 3 months until they are cleared. Why is this?

    Probably so you can't rack up 12 points before you are made aware of them?

    I think the key word in that sentence is applied. For the three months prior to them been applied you technically do not have those penalty points. Therefore you are not doing 3 years and 3 months, you are doing 3 years.
