Hey lads, i am kind of real fan of Dow 40k 2, and when i went to "geek shop" to find some WoW figurines, i sow all that DoW 40k stuff. They had some of it painted for showing it off.

And honestly... it looks FREAKING AMAZING! I know that DoW 40k and all this GW stuff is really older then DoW2 ( big time), but its just i got really interested at it after Dow2.

I know there is actuall Table strategy game ( watched some youtube ) with all these miniatures. But is it popular here in ireland, and does anyone even playing it here?

Now i am not interested in all the game aspect of those miniatures, but more in miniatures it self. They really look cool, and painting them would be some activivity at free time.

But i am afraid of something... i am allready geeky fella, and if i start this stuff... you know what i mean... Mine misses allready looked funny at me when i mentioned it... How do you lads live with it? :)

I would have some questions. Like:

    1. Where do you buy your miniatures, and whats the difference between them? I sow some metal ones and plastic ones, Whats the difference?
    2. Paint and brushes. Where do you get it? ( Co. Cork or internet) Which ones are better? prices?
    3. From what do i start alltogether?!

Quite popular, yes, at least amongst the groups that play wargames.

I'm assuming from your post you're in Cork, and I know there are a number of people down that way that play. It's a bit you didn't post a few months ago, as we could have sent you to WarpCon, and you could have seen scores of people playing a variety of games all weekend.

Understanding other halfs, and bribery ;)

And yes, the painting does take a while.
I would have some questions. Like:

    1. Where do you buy your miniatures, and whats the difference between them? I sow some metal ones and plastic ones, Whats the difference?

I'll let someone from down that way suggest the local suppliers, as I don't know them.

Differences in the models .. where to start ... there are (in the 40k game alone) about a dozen different main armies, all of which have their own specific infantry and vehicles. If you've played Dawn of War then you have seen some of them already. The units that you've seen in the game are taken from the tabletop version.
    2. Paint and brushes. Where do you get it? ( Co. Cork or internet) Which ones are better? prices?

    See above.
    3. From what do i start alltogether?!

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here I'm afraid.

Thx allready m8, thx on a tip with second half ^^ .

I am fammiliar with Army types, i played some of dow1, and i do play alot of dow2 now.

I am really interested in necrons and tyranids actually :D.

On the question, from what to start, i ment:

    1. What do i get painted first? any army starter packs and how are they called so i could find them on internet.
    2. What brushes i need, and what paint is needed, and what is the price of it aswell, atleast +/- prices. where do i rinse brushes after painting, will water be enought or i need that special paint remover. ( sorry dont know how you call it, and mine english is not that good :) )
    3. What glue i need, as some models are self assamble.

ill think of more question, if you dont mind answering them :D

If you only want to paint, then get whatever you like the look off. If you intend to play, then I'd advise picking up the main rules, the army book that you intend to use, and maybe a battalian box set.

The main rules will run you 50-60 euros, an army book about 15-20 and a battalian box about 80.

Getting an army to the point where you would play 'normal sized' games will probably cost you a couple of hundred euros. I'm not saying that to put you off, but its best to know that its not the worlds cheapest hobby :)

I'm not a good painter. If I can get something on the table looking ok, that's all I want. I spray the models black, then a base colour (I keep my colour schemes simple), followed by one or two contrasting colours (bare flesh, weapons, stuff like that).

Water is all I use for rinsing brushes, and I just use the GW paints for convenience.
    3. What glue i need, as some models are self assamble.

All the plastic ones, and most of the metal will have assembly required. I use superglue for it myself.

A good starting point is the Assault on Black Reach boxset, about €60, gets you the 5th edition rulebook plus a shed load of marine and ork minis. Check the GW site for full list of contents.

At this moment i would go for just painting and having it for pleasure. So i guess i will just go for units i like. In time if it gets too big hobby and i will have alot of random miniatures, i will be able to start gaming with them aswell :).

Price is not that bad. I am kind of 23 years old, have a job and live with mine misses for last 5 years under same roof :D. So its not a matter of: " Mummy! i need some money for 40K! " :D

I guess moust of money would go for paint, so what are the prices on it? how much for that small bottle of it?

And what model paint i need to use? I heard some poeple dont like GW brushes and pains alot...

Check out the thread on Doing 40k on the cheap, a few of us are discussing the cheapest places to get 40k stuff. At the moment the weak British pound is a boon if you're ok with ordering off the internet.

Nearly all (maybe all) armies come with a battle force boxset option, a decent sized selection of models, usually a mix of troops and vehicles.

For a good idea of what's available, as well as some great fully painted examples, go to the GW website and browse their 40k section.

Nope, they're all unpainted and also unassembled. Stuff like box sets will be all plastic on a sprue while unique infantry units will be metal and less poseable. The GW site should tell you which is which. Some armies, like the necons have a large part of their force as mostly metal while some of the armies that have gotten a recent codex update (rule book for that army) will have alot of plastics, like Space marines, Orks and once May hits the Imperial Guard.

Forgeworld is a different breed of expensive :) especially those big units.

Ebay is a great place for picking up cheap minis, got a usually €80 battalion for €51 incl shipping recently.

There are introduction paint sets for all 3 main GW games (Warhammer, Warhammer 40K and Lord of the Rings), they give you a few figures and a handful of basic paints, plus a basic brush. Found this for War40K http://cgi.ebay.ie/WARHAMMER-40K-Assault-on-Black-Reach-Paint-Set-NEW_W0QQitemZ120328427262QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Toys_Wargames_RL?hash=item120328427262&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1298|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Most games are about 1500 to 2000 points worth. A plain imperial guardsmen comes in at about 6 points, where as a superheavy tank is about 500.

All warhammer are easily painted over.3000 points is a fairly large amount of warhammer.2 tanks and a deadnought(basically a normal trooper in a big robot suit) The rest are normal troops, elite troops, and then command squad. Also have some great detailed metal character figures too.I will try get a pic altough I dont have a digital camera.I will see what I can do.

i thought deadnought was a heavy injured marine, who was nearly death, and now he can serve marines in deadnought suit.

Anyway, would be interesting to see some army you got here lads.
