Hey, was just about to post the exact same question as you! Just another question to add- we're going in August and wondering if its best to pre book accomodation or are the touts waiting at the ports a fairly reliable source of accomodation. We're thinking we might bring a tent as a back up!

go for it.. recommend islands such as paros, naxos ios santorini etc.. acccommodation is hard enough to find in ios so mayb book that first but u should be able get accommo pretty easy oda wise..

first things first-island hoping is amazing.

did it 2 summers ago for a total of 6 weeks, defo my best holiday. we flew to athens, cheap enough flights with aer lingus. we then got a train down to a place i think was called pireaus or something like that. from there we got a boat to crete. crete was kinda full of scumbags but still a laugh. from there we went to paros but left after 2 days cos it was way too quiet and we wer on holiday to party. saying that i h ave heard paros can be good, just not when we arrived. anyway from there we went to ios, and cos we liked it so much we ended up staying there until the end!! a lot of people go down to the far out or whatever its called, we stayed in the 'town'. we stayed in a few different places there, one called george's place was great. some dont have pools but we just srolled into another places pool and no one notices, especially if u buy lunch by the pool or something.
the nights out there are mad, its like an old town on a hill with loads of little alleyways, real old fashioned but its great. theres a little square with a load of bars. i had heard all about this square before i went but didnt expect it to be so small, about the size of a classroom!
another thing we did while in ios was go on a day trip on a pirate ship, there was about 20 of us so we hired it out and they brought us to some isolated beach for a bbq, graet day.
so anyway what id say is try get a few of the islands in before u go to ios, otherwise ul end up like us staying there until the end!
oh yea and the boats are great over there, u can usually book them on the day and they are as regular as dublin buses but never late.
    enjoy

did it a few years ago. loved it. we did a few quiet islands and a few wild islands. had a ball.

buy a guide book and make a rough plan about which islands to go to but stay flexible. i'd say try and give every place you go at least 3 days and no more than five. we generally got accommodation from the touts and were generally happy.

i would love to go back.
