Here we go again - engine is good. Just do a search and you'll find LOADS of info. Not all bad...but it mostly is;)

If it was me, i'd be steering well clear. Mainly for the electrical reason you've mentioned.

The engine is alright, its the same engine that Nissan use in the Tiida, Qashqai and Kubistar. Oh, its DCi, not TDCi (what Ford call their diesels);)

Some say, they're bombs waiting to explode, and that their camshafts are made of high quality chocalate.

Others, say they're made of pure safetanium and actually aren't that bad really.

All we know is, it's called the Mégane.

Engine is good, fuel economy is unbelieveably good. Expect minor issues with the electrics.

A big advantage is to have a mechanic with Renault expertise maintain it for you. Renaults are put together differently to "normal" cars, so the standard way of tackling jobs doesn't work well. However for a mechanic that is used to them they are no worse to work on than other cars.

In summary I'd say go for it if (a) the price is very good and (b) you can live with a few minor issues. If the car is not cheap (remember these do not hold their value well), or if you are a perfectionist, then keep away.

1.5dci comes in 2 power outputs, 86bhp (I think) and 106bhp. Be clear on which one you are getting. The 106bhp is a gem.
