    Hi All

My boyfriend is english, and due to the bad employment over there, he is now going to move over to me to actively seek employment.

But while he is looking for work, can he claim for Irish dole? We are going away in September, so he will be over here for a short period only.

What are his chances with benefits?

    It's a bit confusing.

England is part of the Common Travel Area, so he might be deemed as habitually resident.

If you have fully paid up NI/ PRSI stamps then in theory you are able to make a claim in either the UK or Ireland based on them. Might be a bit more hassle getting the dole cash out of them than when I was applying for money for an eye test years ago, but the system is there for it.

    Hi
I moved over from the UK in November. Even though I was fully paid up in the UK (National insurance) it does as such transfer over to here if you have not worked in Ireland.

I am entitled to means tested job seekers allowance. The amout I get is based on hubbies wages.

If he is to be living with you then he will get JSA but will be means tested on your wages. Bear in mind the backlog - he may have to wait a while before he gets anything.

If you want any other usefull tips on whathe needs to do before getting here / when he is here pm me.

    HTH
