How to/Tips for ordering prescription glasses online?

    Hi all,

I'm hoping to order my next pair of glasses and sunglasses (both prescription) online.

I intend getting my eyetest done locally and asking for a printout of my prescription.

Can anyone recommend a good site to go to for ordering? What are the pros and cons of ordering online? My hope is that I can get both pairs cheaper online, or alternatively spend the same money as I would here but maybe splash out and get a designer pair instead of just regular specsavers pair.

Is it always best to try & find a style that you like in a local shop, try it on and then try & find that exact model online?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there.

If you do a search on this site there are loads of threads about this subject.

Ive bought my glasses from zennioptical.com for the past few yrs. When you are getting your prescription off the opticians ask them for your pupilliary distance (pd) - this is generally not incl on the prescription (not in specsavers anyway but it is in vision express).

One tip I can give you is to very carefully measure a pair of glasses you have that are comfortable on you to the measurements on the website. That way you wont be stuck with a pair that are too tight!!

Have a look at the eyeglasses & contact lens forum. You'll probably find more information there than here. :)

    hey op,

i've ordered my prescription glasses online and the best tip i can give you is to go into any opticians, try on loads of pairs, when you find the few you really like, get the product codes from the sales person (i just asked them to write them down for me on a business card, i told them my mam was coming back to buy them for so wanted the EXACT code so she didn't buy the wrong ones ;)) and then google the product code. You'll find loads of choice online, i saved about 100 euros on mine and the site was www.justgoodspecs.com .... specsavers give you a print out of your prescription.
