I have bought a car in the north and want to pay the VRT on it now. Problem is I have lost the tax book(V5) (I have no document to actually say that I own the car). I presume there is no point going to the VRO until I get a replacement tax book? What do I need to do?

That's a messy one. My guess is you'll have to get the previous uk owner to apply to the DVLA for a replacement V5.
