Looking for a car, around the 5k mark

Well, looking for a car around the 5k mark or.. Preferably, well under.
Absolutely sick of my 106gti so gettin rid of it..

I'm 21 and only have one years ncb so insurance may be an issue depending.

I'm stumped as to what to buy really, i don't really have any requirements at all which is making this a very hard choice!
Although.. I wouldn't mind having something reliable!

Any ideas?
I've been looking at mondeos, passats, e46s, newer clios too but then.. I don't want to be completely deprived of power.

Ah not too much of a fan of audis, all a big overpriced if you ask me..
I've really no idea what to buy.

Drunkmonkey, can insure that easily but an e36.. Wouldn't be a fan of that one really..

Friend has a golf gti, wouldn't be a fan..bit too boring for what it's meant to be! If it was a big saloon car now it'd be great but as it is..nah.

These are supercharged I believe, probably not the quickest in all, but very smooth and easy power.

Random thought since you were looking at saloons would be an A6, A4, E39 5 sereis and of course the E46, but don't go for a four cylinder. The saloon models are particularly good value...

I'd feel like a tool going around in an open top car if it was anything less than a ferrari
no offense intended!

Might look at some other Saabs though, 5 series look like seriously good value..as do those A6s

OP I know your looking at saloons but you did mention you were looking at a Clio but wanted a bit of power.

Went to see that 172 before bazz, it's in a shocking state.
But yes, that's a definite possibility, not too sure of the reliability of that engine, though.

missed that post with the octavia vrs, wouldn't mind one of those at all actually.
any known major problems with them?
