PC stops outputting video signal during boot

    Hi all.

I have a problem with my PC. When I press the power button, it starts to boot up as normal, getting as far as the Windows loading screen (the status bar that runs across the screen with a black background). Then the screen goes blank, and my monitor goes into standby mode. I can hear Windows makings sounds as it boots, but get no picture.

I've tested the DVI cables and they are attached correctly. I've opened the PC and the graphics card (Radeon HD3450) seems to be seated correctly.

    I've tried rebooting several times.

The PC is a custom built one running Vista 64 on an MSI motherboard (K9NGM3-FIH) and Athlon processor.

    Can anyone help?

Boot into Safe Mode, change your resolution and refresh rate to something low and then boot into Windows normally.

Thanks feyla. Unfortunately that didn't work.

I booted to Safe Mode. The resolution was automatically set at 800x600 (I think thats what it was), and I couldn't change it. When I tried to change the refresh rate, the only option is to use the hardwares default settings.

    The following as options:
    restore points
    windows repair
use your tv to plug your monitor in incase it needs a higher res.
    reinstall graphics drivers
(the problem of "signal lost" is not a hardware issue it happens all the time to me if i plug one of my computers thats used to a bigger screen into a smaller one)

Thanks for the advice all. I got it sorted.

    1. I booted to safe mode.

    2. Uninstalled the srivers for the video card

    3. Rebooted into Normal mode

    4. Reinstalled the graphics cards

    5. Hey presto...it works:)

    Thanks again.
