I have a quick question. does anybody know at present is it possible to upgrade your tv to support mpeg4 or is it a piece of hardware that is in the tele.
At present i have a sony tele that can pick up the standard channels through the digital reciever built in. it doesnt show any picture but it can pick up the epg and channel list. i presume this is because the tv only picks up mpeg 2. so is it possible? I dont want to go out and pay for a reciever when the tv could support it.

You can purchase a piece of Hardware called a cam for about 60 euro. It may work with your tv.

that is a solution i presume it fits in the pcmcia slot on the back of the tv.
Would i be right in saying that im recieving the signal with no picture because the tv only supports mpeg2?

That is the technical reason why, yes.

The current DTT sytem/trials are using MPEG4.

Or you could wait until a suitable settop box becomes available (ie. one suitable for both the free channels and whatever PayTV service will be offered), and plug it in via HDMI to your TV.
