ok i was running AVG Free for about 3-4 months it was running fine, no problems until one day i got this MS AntiSpyware 09 (google it its a virus) running on startup, i scanned the whole computer with AVG and it found nothing, so i tried deleting everything i had connected to the program, files startup options etc, i think this got rid of it but my computer was still infected, it had become really slow and sluggish. so i did a scan with AVG again and nothing.

so I downloaded Kaspersky, installed and started a scan, within minutes it had found trojans etc. scan completed and it said in order to neutralize some threats it had to restart, so i restarted it. it comes to the login screen (Win XP), i type in my password it starts to login, then almost immediately it logs out.Every Time.

I have so much college work on this laptop and exams are only a couple weeks away this couldnt have happened at worse time.

Has anyone idea whats happening? Even just so i can login and take the stuff off of it is enough(its an old laptop, about 4 years old)

Any help anyone can offer will be hugely appreciated.

ok Im not the expert my co-worker in our other business is. Now if he was on here he'd write a two page description of what your virus is, what its doing and where its hiding. AVG has a reputation for not being able to get the really nasty viruses. In our business we use ESET. Its deemed to be the no1 catcher of nasties. It searches for viruses differently than other companies.

First off try and get in in safe mode. I would try and unistall AVG and I presume you didnt load kapersky on top of AVG did you??? If you dud remove that too.

Now are you sure AVG just hasnt found the Microsoft Antispyware program on your system? Cause I cant find any mention of it in the virus data bases..

If you can get logged on, go online to this addy:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

Run the online scan. That software is the business and will tell you what you REALLY have and how to fix it!

Best of luck

If you laptop does not start up normally this is what you must do
BOOT INTO SAFE MODE
To do this:
• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
• Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
• Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
• When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
