Frame Size Question

I ordered a specialized allez yonks ago with the 56cm frame which according to the sizing guide would suit my height(just under 6 feet).

I've been told today that it wont be available until next year(It was supposed to be available this week) and only the 58 cm frames are in stock.

So my question is, should I consider the 58 cm frame or start looking at other options?

    Any advice appreciated.

58 would be a shade too big, IMO. I'm 6'3" and have a 58cm Allez.

58cm may fit, but you may be at the end of the range (depending on torso length etc).

Which means you have fewer options to change the bike fit.

e.g. if the reach is a bit long, you might put your saddle forward to compensate, which shifts your weight forward. Then your wrists might start hurting you, so to take the weight off you'd move the saddle back and use a shorter stem. But if you're already using a short stem because the frame is too big, you're a bit stuffed.

Thanks Raam. That's what I expected but I was hoping I wouldn't have to start looking for an alternative after waiting 3 months for this one :(

Hmm, Lumen, I'm confused again. I think it's probably not worth buying a bike I'm likely to be uncomfortable on and I don't really have the experience to know how much of a drawback what Lumen describes would be.

Did you order from Cycleways? I got mine there and it took ages to come in. Very annoying. Consider cancelling and ordering another bike online. That said, the Allez is a good bike and I'm very pleased with mine.

Ordered from cyclestore.co.uk It's listed on cycleways I see in my size, it would be about 90 euro more expensive(I got it during the Jan sales) but if 58 cm is out I might check to see if they have the 56 cm in stock.

I'm 6ft and ride 58cm, two of my bikes are Specialized. It may be OK.

Yes, but don't you ride with the saddle all the way forward and a small setback post? This would indicate being towards one end of the range already.

Haha, not on the Specializeds I don't, standard setback post on them. Litespeed the same. However you are right that I reckon I am towards one end of the range. The Focus I felt was on the large side. OP- 56cm is probably optimum for you but you would probably need to try it out.

90 euro is not that bad considering you can go in and check out the size for yourself.
these are in clonmel and have very good prices on specialized bikes.

Thanks guys. Good clear advice made the decision a lot easier.

Checked in cycleways and they say they have the 56 cm frame so assuming there's no problem cancelling the online order (since they cant deliver it anyway) I'll probably buy from cycleways.
