employer request for mortgage details

Good morning
Can anyone tell me why an employer would need to know details of VHI and Mortgage account numbers ,says it will reduce PAYE,but that does not make sense to me.Do these two not have tax relief at source.

For VHI.. are they paying it for you through a work?

They have no reason to need you mortgage number at all

Thanks.that's what I thought, as its not for me I don't know about the VHI but I doubt it, I believe this particular place is trying to cut wages..Could they be on a "scam" saying they are paying VHI or something? Would you advise the employee not to give these detaills..It's my daughters friend and my advise was not to give anything without knowing what it will be used for.

I would advise her to ask them why exactly they want this information, not to be fobbed off by them saying "it will help lower tax" and get it in writing why they want the info, it may be a good reason but maybe it wasnt explaned very well to the staff. Its a weird one though!

They may need to make a return to the Revenue. A quick phone call to the Revenue should clear that up.

What Revenue return for employees requires mortgage account info?

Yeah, I imagine they stick with PPS numbers.
