    Hi,

Dropped my iphone last week and there's a crack now all down the front of the screen which is really annoying. Is there anywhere in Dublin I can bring it that will replace the screen?

I don't know about Dublin but I saw someone on this forum mention this ebay store had fixed their cracked screen for €50ish :http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/iRepair-Centre .
They seem to have good feedback. It might be an option if you don't find some place else.

For what its worth - I had mine repaired by a shop on Cork for around €100 & you cant tell the difference, so private repair is a good option..........

My OH has the same problem. I have just been into a chinese guy in a shop in Bray that does all this repair work.

Basicly he says repairing the screen costs €70 but there is a big probability this will damage the LCD screen under the glass which will then bring the cost to €170 after fixing the LCD screen.

Obviously nothing to stop him from saying he broke the LCD so most like he will charge €170 all the time which I will not pay.

He said out of 5, he only managed to do it without damage to the LCD screen once as it is very difficult not to.

I would suggest go elsewhere so... but it can be done in Bray if you want to pay

I would like to know some details as well if possible.

I dont mean to be hijacking this thread but I am in need of some advice. I have the iphone 6 weeks on 02 Speakeasy. I failed to get it insured - Stupidly - but I have learnt my lesson. Is it possible to get it fixed through phone cover if I buy the insurance now? I am keen to do it this way as I dont want to wreck my warranty by getting a third party to fix it. Also my house insurance will cover it but I am not too sure if I want to go down that route.

Any help in general or advice would bbe HUGELY helpful

That was my post. I sent it off just over a week ago and have been told to expect it back tomorrow. It was €50 for the parts and repair and another €9ish for signed delivery. They have good feedback from other customers who got the same repair.

If I get it tomorrow I will let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks :)
I bookmarked the ebay page at the time I read it here but I couldn't find the actual post then today. Hope it'll be a success.

Interested to see what it turns out like - just for info - the €100 I paid INCLUDED the touch screen & glass, the guy told me that he wouldn't risk just a glass repair as even if it worked, it could lead to later problems.

The €50 I paid was for the glass, touch screen digitizer and repair. I have seen repairs online for just the glass but the poster above is correct in saying that it is very risky trying to seperate the digitizer layer from the glass layer.

Normally if you break the screen you have to replace the glass & digitizer OR the glass, digitizer & LCD unit.

i have insurance on my iphone and unfortunately from what i know about it from the info on the policy sent out to me is that you cant pick up the insurance now and claim, if insurance is put on at point of sale of the handset you can claim from then on but if you add it at a later date you cant claim for 60 days after getting. also it has to be set up through direct debit if your a speakeasy user

The touchscreen is the glass. It's seperating it from the LCD and the digitizer that is difficult.

Personally I think this is BS, it's not easy to do the repair but seperating the LCD from the touchscreen is very easy. It would be practically impossible to damage the LCD when removing the touchscreen.

I've replaced one of these and if someone will do it for less than €100 I'd bite there hand off tbh. Here is a post I wrote in Jan re the replacment

o2 or apple don't replace screens if you drop and break them, why would they?? If you have insurance you can claim on that.

If not, you have a couple of options. Parts are easily available to buy online.

get on to applecare and pay to have it fixed ~ €250 think is miniumum charge

Buy a full replacement touchscreen and lcd ~ $250 refurbished.

    Relatively easy replacement job.

If just the touchscreen is broken, you can buy a new one for around €60
and replace it yourself. This is difficult. I recently did one.

The touchscreen is glued/taped to the plastic part the contains speaker
and home button getting them apart requires
a heat gun and a lot of effort which can warp the plastic and be difficult
to put back together with new screen.

ifixit have the best how to but their price is a little high.

Here is what the one I finally got off looked like..

When mine broke (luckily, insured; unluckily it took Apple three weeks to decide to replace the phone - three weeks of Motorola hell), someone posting in the Mac forum here told me he got his fixed cheap and fast in a shop in George's Street or Aungier Street in Dublin.

Luckat. Any idea of the exact location?

No, I don't think he named the shop - but from the top of South Great George's Street to the far end of Camden Street is about a 10-minute walk. Ask in the first mobile phone shop and they'll probably point you to the right one.

Took a little bit longer than expected as a spring on the home button was also missing. The phone was returned to me in perfect condition, fully cleaned and all with new screen.

No, claiming the damage happened after you bought insurance is insurance fraud.

Hi, just wondering what shop you got your phone repaired in?

    Hi
I got my IPhone screen repaired in a place called phonemenders on South Anne st (just of Grafton St) yesterday and it cost €70.
When I started to use it the speaker volume was very low.
I called them back today and they replaced the whole front of the phone at no extra charge.
    Great service for a change.

All they probably did was to turn up the volume :P

Didnt bother getting it fixed as new 4 was coming out, but now funds are in sh**e so cant afford it!!
