    comes into effect this week for all people on the dole. You can apply for id card at your local garda station. You will need passport photos

    is this the same as the 'black ID' card? the one you get when you turn 18 so you can get served?

    From CitizensInformation.ie
    You can collect your jobseeker’s payment weekly from your nearest Post Office. You must bring valid photographic identification with you to collect your payment.

    The following is considered as valid photographic identification (photo ID):

    * Driving licence
    * Passport
    * GNIB card.

    It does NOT mention the Gardai Age Card as being suitable. With that said, it would be entirely possible for someone to not have any of the forms of ID listed there, so they may accept the Age Card anyway.

    GNIB cards are cards from when Non-EU nationals register as immigrants in Ireland to get their Stamp 4s (right to work in Ireland)

    Previously I was told it was just because my first backdated payment was over €500 that they needed the photo id, but didn't normally need it. So is this a new thing they have just brought in around the new budget?

    It came in the other week, previously they have the option to ask but did not always, now they have to

    Note there is some discression here, if they actually know you, you do not need ID, but this would be less likley in a busy office.

    it will be enforced in postoffices because social welfare are having a huge crack down on fraud.i would enquire about the garda natioal age card in social welfare office but thats an age card not an identity card
