Been given a classic car........don't know what to do!

So as the title says I have been given a classic car by a family member to do with what I wish. So I have decided to sell it, badly need the funds for college, but havent the foggiest how to go about this or how much to sell it for.

Im ashamed to say I know hardly anything about the car or cars in general, all I know is that it is a 1972 BMW touring 2000, has been converted to accept unleaded fuel and is currently not running due to a problem with the fuel pump. As far as I know all the fixtures and interiors are all original.

So I am asking for help from boardsies to point me in the right direction of how to go about all this, not looking to sell it through boards, aware this is not allowed, but if mods feel the need to delete the thread please do so!

Here are some photos, it needs a good cleaning though!:

    +1

Presuming the body is good (as they are known to rot everywhere) I'd keep it. There is not too many about especially this Touring version, they are a great drivers car and almost all parts are available and a lot new. Also they are easy to maintain mechanically and don't give trouble as such.

If you decide to keep it join the BMW clubs at small expense, which would be the best investment you could make.

Fuel pumps can be bought for about €65 (www.jaymic.co.uk) and are only held on by two nuts. Get it running first it will be worth more.

    Cheers

Body is in good nick, only the old rust speck, no clusters. Has been really well taken care of.

Alot of people have told me to keep it, but the reality is I have no interest in the car, I just see it as something that is taking up space in my driveway...give me my C3 any day, which is currently residing out on the road due to the BMW taking up too much space! So Id rather give it a good home where someone will actually get enjoyment out of it!

Sell it so as the worst thing that you can do is leave it lying unused. No silly Republic of Cork fantancy prices though!:D

As for value well it really depends on body condition but if it's 'condition 2' I'd say you should get €3-4k. Good luck.

You obviously have no interest in classic cars yourself so fair play to you to go out of your way to find this place :)

There is no best place to advertise it :)

Seriously, PM LIGHTNING. He is interested in the car and he will offer you a fair price if he wants it after having a look at it.

No interest and no clue would sum it up nicely, lucky for me there was a post on the boards homepage a while back so I didnt have to search too hard to find the forum! PM has been sent, just want to get the thing off my drive at this stage, between college and work placement I havent had the time to work on selling it. Thanks to those who have commented so far!

i've been looking at 2002s recently (just went to see a 2002tii last weekend), so this might be of interest. a little confusing though... it is badged a 2000, which means it should be a 4 door (which it clearly isn't), the 2002 were the 2 doors. yours is probably a single carb 100bhp model. nice colour, but body condition is everything, so it's hard to value it without actually poking about at the body. tourings are the least valuable, and single carbs are the least powerful, so even if yours is in top notch condition, its really only worth €2500. it will be hard to sell if it's not running, unless you find someone who really knows them and can pinpoint if it is really just the fuel pump.

i had a 2002 expert with me when i viewed the tii the other day, and he steered me clear and spotted lots of faults that i would not have. there is a 2002 meeting on in spawell tonight that i'm heading along to, to get advice on buying one. i presume you're car is based in cork? you never know, i might be able to get over to you and check it out... i'll be in touch. in the meantime, can you email me some bigger pics? i'll PM you my email address. thanks in advance.

Seeing as it cost you nothing and you've no interest in it why not raffle it for a local charity......just a thought..:)

"badly need the funds for college"
Stick it on adverts.ie to see if it will generate some interest. College year is nearly over so you dont need cash as bad I hope, and summer classic scene is starting and summer will be the best time to sell, so dont be in a rush to sell it. Bring it to a classic car show and stick a for sale sign on the window or stick it on evilbay

It was my mothers but she is unable to drive it anymore due to illness, so she gave it to me to help raise funds for college incase I dont get a grant next year. Nothing shady or anything, honest reason for recieving it and selling!
