    Bike looks great, well done.

And I thought you were taking the proverbials when you mentioned getting the pink one, Fair play, and it does look good, and good to see someone else with my physique:D I'm guessing you went for the medium?

Notice that he is in the big ring for all the shots. More impressed with the legs than the bike:D Well done Tiny, long time coming but it takes balls! thanks for photos emty

Looks like a flat spin ... doesn't include any of the patented emty shots of people descending around turns ... :)

    Looks class!

I see Tiny is now copying my overshoes, grrr! Time to spraypaint my bike!

Cheers for that Emty, they came out nicely.

Was a great spin... missed out on the hills this morning thanks to derailleur trouble, and decided flat was better for a shakedown, as getting stranded up Sally Gap due to something falling off is not good.

All in all, I'm very happy with the bike. I've cocked up a bit on the seatpost, which is a bit short, so my saddle was too low, but apart from that, and a strange 'knocking' coming from my bb/cranks when I put the power down, it's all nice and smooth. Rival works well, shifting on the rear mech is smooth and silky, the front is slightly more agricultural, but no more so than the ultegra on my focus, so all in all, I'd recommend Rival to anyone (though this is after only 80km of a test ride!)

Looks great --about the noise coming from the bb. I had this on my bike but it was one of the pedals it was'nt tight enough. worth a try

    Looks class. Well done.

I called around for you after my own spin to collect the tools, but obviously you'd gone out on the road by then. I'll pick them up during the week.

Emty: I think you could develop a second career as a cycling photographer. Those low down shots of people hitting bends are becoming a trademark.

Fair play Tiny..it actually looks class...need to get moving and get some pink bar tape going on though!

Reckon you should start a 'Tiny's Log of Pink Bike-related Abuse from Passers-By' thread....pretty sure it'll make for interesting reading.

I think pink tape would be overkill, though I do have some at home :)

Strangely enough, there was a couple of looks, but no comments yesterday -I reckon that people already think you're a nut for wearing lycra, so the colour of the bike doesn't matter! :)

@Dirk, I have white shoes, so have white overshoes -we can share the look man, it's ok!

@Tonto -sorry to miss the call, yeah, we'd headed out. I can drop the stuff over to you tonight or something, will text later on.

Only downside of yesterday's spin was thanks to saddle position being off, my left knee is pretty sore today, but it'll pass

What about white bar tape and a white saddle? I think that would look good.

Afraid not, I already own a nice and comfy black Fizik Arione that's going on when the right head for my seatpost arrives, and I want to keep the pink/black theme going!

Fair dues though - It looks hot as hell. And it looks like I'm going to be picking up my own, much less extrovert, PX this evening. I can't wait, but it'll be a while before it's on the road, still have to get lots of bits.

I was thinking of getting pink cables and stuff - if I did it could end up like some sort of negative of your bike :P.

That's some crazy road rash you've got on your leg there...

I have to get just bought those ultremos... they're awesome... saddle is also great, but I think discontinued.

I reckon pink cables would actually nice on your bike, kinda of a Rapha Condor type thing going. If you need any tips on putting the bike together, just give me a shout... you have a headset ordered yet? Oh, and you'll need to get some barrel adjusters too (unless you steal them from your Cube)

In stock. I am waiting for the white myself :)

ultremos are the blorginators tyre of choice (in boringbastardblack though ) so you know they're good.

Tiny - I'm sure I'll be on to you about any little niggles I have when it comes time to get assembling. I've already taken note of your seatpost problem - the PX has a very compact geometry so I suppose the seatpost would need to be pretty long - would 300mm do it or am I looking for something in the 350 to 400 range? And thanks for the heads up on the barrel adjusters, one more item on the shopping list.

Hold on one second now. I was rocking those overshoes long before you even appeared on a boards spin.

Sounds good. I'll be out on the bike after work this evening, so I could drop by to pick them up.

I thought you'd be transfering the stuff over from the Cube, but it sounds like your building yourself a totally new crotch rocket?

It's the whole host of little things that got me... geometry is extremely compact... I have a 250mm seatpost, and it's too small for me, so for you I reckon 300 at a minimum for your lengthy legs, I've just ordered a 350mm one from here -seems best price/weight post out there, and the cyclops clamp is funky, though come in different sizes that aren't good for Fizik owners (had to order a replacement), but would be find for you Specialized saddle. If 10mm of layback is enough (it should be), I would definitely recommend getting it. For headset, this will work and is right size. Seat clamp is 31.6mm -your Cube may not be... the Variado is smaller, though the Cayo is 31.6. Apart from that and the barrel adjusters (I could only find shimano ones from my cursory glance online, if you find fancier ones, do link to 'em!), you should know that the frame doesn't include bottle cage bolts, though if you order cages you should be fine.

I think that's about it, but no prob lending ya a hand if you need it!

Sadly my crotch will have to get by with an only partially new rocket.

The wheels and groupset will be coming straight over from das cube, but the stem, seatpost, bars, cables, cages etc. will be new and improved. TBH a lot of the finishing kit on the cube is just too sh1t to go to the new bike - I'd feel guilty reusing my 400g seatpost bought for €12 in the flood sale. PX deserves better. Dammit, I deserve better...

I'm holding off on buying seatpost and stem until the frame is here though so I can replicate my position with nanometric precision. Am I the only roadie in the world who uses a zero offset seatpost?

I like the look of that alien - 10mm offset might be good for me, I've found the usual 20 or 25 too much.

That's the exact headset I've ordered... in white. :D

The post is 31.9mm (same as my cube luckily so I have a couple of seatposts with differing offset to experiment with before buying a decent one), what size is the clamp? 34.9?

Bottle cage bolts noted and added to list. Thanks.

Possibly not... the 10mm isn't that noticeable. Very sensible to wait, I kinda wish I had now so I would have everything arriving at once, rather than in dribs and drabs. You going carbon on the finishing kit? If so, I'd recommend FSA or 3T -the Ergosum bars are supposed to be the bees knees.

One other thing, the FD needs to be band on, not sure if the cube is, so you may need an adaptor, like this -all manufacturers are standard afaik

My bad, the clamp is 34.9.

Shoulda gone for this headset -ceramic is better :p

You should get bolts with the cages, or are you ordering Ti ones separately? If so, order 4 extra and I'll reimburse!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,833 ✭✭✭niceonetom

Of course the finishing kit will all be carbon and every bearing will be ceramic. All my bolts will be titanium and there will be peace on earth and good will to all men. The lion will lie down with the lamb, and every day will be sunny and bright. Eh, no... wait a minute.

Given carte blanch I'd go 3T all the way - I really like the look of their stuff and the Doric post looks right up mu alley offsetwise but ITTOEH finishing kit will be largely aluminium. Seatpost is undecided as yet, but I keep imagining myself trying to explain to a civilian why €128 for a seatpost is actually quite reasonable, and realise that we are, as a group, certifiable.

@NiceOneTom: never try and justify bike purchases. Just hit the "pay now" button and forget about it straight away. Then when the item arrives, it's like a present from a distant relative.

    ITTOEH? Sorry, lost me there....

Good job for you there's the 3T PRO range then... ErgoSum Bars for 60 quid, and matching Stem for 35 -fits into your Black and White scheme perfectly!
