looking at 1.2 to 1.4 engine - budget is €6,500 max - have been looking at a few of the cars on CBG and carzone - Fiesta seems to be a bit cheaper in price and i guess it the quality of the interior of the car - any things i should really look out for in the difference?

Have a read of this before deciding on the polo. They tend to have numerous niggly faults.

if you could get a nice fiesta ghia you'd have a good motor if willing to go for a hard to sell afterwards 1.4. The steel model fiesta rides very hard on the 16 inch wheels. Polos are nice but you'll pay for the privilege. Fiesta is nicer to drive by a mile too

I'd say the fiesta has a better reliability record and are always very saleable come trade in.

I'd have to go with the Fiesta here too, I had a Ford up to recently and they really are great cars to drive. You would also probably get alot Fiesta than Polo for €6,500 imo.

The Fiesta to go for is the 1.25 litre engine, that engine was co-designed with Yamaha, it has 75bhp compared to the Polo's 55bhp or 65bhp depending on which version of the 1.2 litre you go for. The Steel model comes well equipped too.

Another thing to note is that the Polo 1.2 litre engine is a 3 cylinder engine meaning it will be more noiser that the Fiesta. If you are set on a Polo you should also look at the Skoda Fabia and Seat Ibiza which are basically a Polo underneth but cost less to buy.

At the end of the day though the only way to find is to test drive all these cars and see which one you like the most.

Fiesta for reliability , handling , performance , etc......
Polo if you believe the vw hype.
If you like german cars then the fiesta is the car for you (they are also made in Spain) as the polo is built in Slovakia or Spain.

That model Fiesta is one of the worst Fords of recent years. The new one is an excellent car however.
You should look at the Ibiza instead of the Polo, as the Ibiza only came with the 65bhp 1.2, and it looks a lot better!
