Cycle to work - have to spend all €1,000 in the one shop?

Does anyone know if this is possible:
Buy a bike for say €800 in Ireland, spend the remaining €200 online getting mudguards, protective clothing etc. at discount prices.
I have read through the cycle to work literature and can't see anywhere stating that you have to spend all the money in the one shop at the one go. Is it possible to split it like this and still get the full tax relief (assuming your employer agrees)?

You have to get your employer to buy the bike for you.
I think different companys do things differently.

You're better off asking your employer first anyway, I can't imagine there being a problem

Might want to check into this, as I know if you buy a bike for say €500, that is you done for the five years, you can't use up the "remaining" €500 later.

    Hi,

I was wondering that too, I checked with our HR dept (they're using raleigh2work.ie to admin the scheme) and they said that you can get the bike in one shop and the safety gear in another. The total cost can't be more than €1000 and the two sets of quotes have to be submitted together to make sure you don't go over the limit.

    Hope this helps.

I really don't think the Revenue care. The whole point of the scheme is to get people to buy and use their bikes - it's not some tax-dodging loophole.

The Department of Finance have bigger fish to fry.

Interesting, they offer the service for free - any problems experienced with them so far?

Besides it taking an age to get the voucher from them, 3 weeks waiting now. Took one person in work a month to get the voucher and another 2 days.

I've spoken to them on the phone a couple of times and they've always been very nice and helpful. I only submitted my quote last week so not sure how long it's going to take to get the voucher. Though HR did say it could take a couple of weeks depending on the volume of quotes they get.

It says on raleigh2work.ie website that they are a not for profit organisation to help employers and employees with the scheme
