There's actually some good deals to be had in the republic. Cycleways, Wheelworks both have good deals on specialized bikes.

What kinda of bike are you looking for?

My choice up North is www.slanecycles.com BUT there are some good deals about at the moment in the South, especially in high end frames as they cant shift them, also dont rule out second hand, I remember seeing amazing top end bikes like Look for silly money in Cyclesuperstore, and they were in mint condition.

i'll second the slane cycles recommendation. they gave me a very decent discount on the stuff i bought there recently. it also took about 2 days to deliver too. email communication wasn't amazing but they seem to be very busy at the moment.

Give them a call, they are really helpful and very efficient. I sometimes have my goods the day after I order !!

If you're going to Belfast, might consider popping in to BikeDock. Had a nice experience buying from them, had some interesting stuff in there.

I like you was all set to buy online or up north but I found that if you go to your LBS and tell them what you are looking at and whats your budget, more often than not they will do there very best to match the deal you are getting online. I bought a specialized from my LBS a couple of months back here in Waterford and at the time I was looking at buying a complete package from cyclesuperstore, they had a giant and all the gear (helmet, pedals, shoes Jersey, shorts, pump, tubes, computer, and tools) for something like €950, my LBS matched the deal for me. It meant that I was getting the back up service on my door step too.

I have since gone back to him and bought a full groupset upgrade from him for my specialized and only last week, I bought a dolan hercules se frame and full Ultegra SL groupset from him and he built the whole bike up for me while supplying wheels, bars saddle for cheaper and better spec that what the complete bike would have cost me online.

My point is, its better to give your LBS a shot at trying to do business rather than just going and buying it online. In the long run you will get better deals if you are buying from the same place.

Mind you there are still things that he cant match and that where the www comes in handy.

I've heard that theres a deal at the moment with specialized price matching with UK prices. There seemed to only €50 difference between the online UK price and my local LBS on the Sirrus for example.

Push your employer to offer the 'Cycle To Work' scheme and you'll get a substantial discount on the cost of a new bike.

The pricing on Giant bikes also compares very well with the UK at the moment. I just checked a CRS 2.5 against Stg pricing. £375.00 in the UK vs E425.00 here. At this mornings exchange rate that makes them all but identical. AKAIK Giant dropped most of their pricing on March 1st.
