Replace Sky with Freesat EPG on Digibox

    Hi all,

I have gotten hold of an old Sky Digibox and I'm getting all the FTA channels I want. However, I have no intention of ever becomming a Sky subscriber and so would much prefer to get rid of the Sky EPG and use the Freesat EPG since this should then just give me a list of FTA channels only. I have setup the Default Transponder to 11428H but how do I delete the old EPG so the Freesat one can copy over the top of it ? The Digibox is a Pace DS430N

    Many thanks in advance

    C

you will have to get a new reciever. You cant replace the EPG on a sky box.

You can pick them up for pretty cheep these days

Would you suggest a "Freesat" one or a generic one ?

If you want the Freesat EPG, definitely go for a Freesat receiver. Some generics ones seem to be able to use the Freesat EPG but stick with the real deal for the smoothest experience.

I can live with the EPG by creating a favourites list.

Once you make a favourites list you can press tv guide then blue button and this automaticallly shows you your favourite channels that are working fta.

Another tip to keep in mind is going into Sky news intreractive and then taking out the card and replacing it back in upside down.

The box then reconfigures itself and after a minute the EPG becomes the English list which works much better for FTA as all the extra channels like ITV 2,3,4, etc are all on the EPG without having to be accessed via "other channels".

The EPG stays in that English mode until the card is put back the correct side.

Without a Skycard at all, would this trick work using any awl card ?

Yes it works after it originally been set upeven when powered off it will still stay set as i described.

You can use any plastic card to set up like a credit card does not have to be a sky card either :)

?? The favourites list has nothing to do with whether or not a channel is FTA....unless that happens to be what you put into the list.

Also, there are 3 SERIOUS limitations to the so-called "favourites" list - 1) you can only add the EPG channels (no "other channels"); 2) you cannot flick between those channels normally - you can only go "up one" and 3) you cannot check what's on those channels later.

The Sky EPG is the most end-user-unfriendly heap of rubbish ever invented - nothing to do with what a user would want and all to do with Sky making more money (normal business rules would at least have a 60/40 split between those).

You can flick between the favourite channels by pressing the blue button to jump to each favourite channel.

I was hoping that if I pointed the Def. Transponder (or some other setting) to something other than the Sky EPG then it wouldn't be able to download it and so I could then just add the channels I wanted to the box. Is there any way to do this ?

I don't particularly need an EPG

    No.
    Sky only.

As I said - you can only go "up one". Crap system.
