    Hi All,

Just updated my running calendar. Feel free to use it. I have only included the races close to City. If I have missed any or need to add any please PM me.

    Happy racing

Thanks ZL - nice to see such a comprehensive list encompassing road, hills, orienteering etc. Is the orienteering thing well supported? I guess it's a male-only thing as there's map reading involved...:o

Interested to see the Bandon 5 has been moved to New Year's Day.

Have Donegal, Belfast, Killarney all been annexed by the People's Republic now? :)

Would appreciate any info on the following 2 races...

    1) a 1 mile road race usually around May Bank Holiday I think, in Ballinhassig possibly?

    2) a 5 mile road race in North Cork, near Charleville - the place might be called Newtown, I know it's near Churchtown - anyone know where exactly and when this is on?

    Thanks.

All the races are from calendar online but check before you head to make sure there still on.
Yip I added one or two outside the Peoples Republic just for balance. :-)

Not sure about the Bandon 5m moving. But January is a bit away. Will probably do an update before then.

There could be over 100 people at a local orienteering event such as the Cork-O events in tuesdays evenings in the summer. But if the weather's bad, it can be much less than that...

There's usually a number of courses that you can pick from. Some courses will have all the control flags beside a path, and are very easy. Others can require the use of a compass for setting bearings etc. There are plenty of women who have no trouble doing this :).

This was an 8k last year. Has it changed?

Can anyone suggest a good place for a session (6x1mile or 10x1k) in Cork on Friday morning? Happy to go to CIT or Mardyke tracks, but ca't travel too far, time constraints. Are there still fields out the back of the astroturf pitches at the gym place next to CIT if I don't have access to a track? Just need somewhere without roads to cross, not too much people walking/dog traffic etc. Thanks.

PS - does Pres fields still exist? I'll be Bishopstown way...

    Racing Flat,

Pres fields are railed off now, your best bet is to use the fields at the back of CIT track and also there is a path/walkway (take a left on the walkway) that brings you down to 'the farm' (UCC's playing pitches). There is plenty of grass there also, 2 mile loop roughly.

Thanks tergat, when I was in Cork as a teenager, wasn't too active, so memory of these places a bit hazy (and to do the Spioraid Naoimh/Bishopstown GAA/Highfield loop might bring out cold sweats from school cross country races :p).

For the fields at the back of CIT, is the best place to park that gym/pool/astroturf place next to CIT? If memory serves me correctly, getting into CIT in a car is a bit like getting into Fort Knox...

    Racing Flat,

Park in Leisureworld thats the gym/pool/astroturf place you are refering to. Great places to run there now, some new pitches across the river also.
