These guys are based in Limerick but they provide a nationwide service:

I have used Sam's motors , in the quin road industrial estate to service my car, and have been very happy with them. They even cleaned inside and outside my car the last time I went to service it, was given there name by a friend when asked who he would trust to service his car.

I haven't gone back there since Dave left. I actually had him check a car for me that i knew was fine already but an extra set of eyes is always good.

I wouldn't trust the apprentices though.

just found an alternative to carcheckireland...

    http://www.carbuyerscheck.com/

don't know which one is best though, they both provide a list of the tests they perform on their own web sites anyway...

both of them seem to be poor options.
one has a voicemail saying he'll be off till the 22nd of April, the other asked me 320€ to have the car tested, then when I complained and told him I could bring the car over to him he lowered the price to 150€... :pac:

They both seem private mechanics, rather than teams of experts...
