Quick question. We have both Sky TV and general channels (not sure what you call it, but RTE, RTE2, TV3, TG4, BBC and ITV) which covers all the other rooms in the house.

The company who we pay for the extra channels (Coastal Multi Systems) left in a note saying we can get loads of "Free to Air Channels" which include radio stations, sky news, BBC, CNN, Filmfour etc. They gave the sky number but said they can be easily tuned in on the TVs (nothing to do with Sky and apparently we can stop subscribing to sky and get all these channels). I have tried, but not getting anywhere near these channels.

    Any ideas?

What he probably meant was by using a non subscription Digibox or FTA satellite box you can pick up all of the free radio stations, sky news, BBC, ITV, CH4, CNN, Filmfour etc, which you actually can. They can be easily tuned in on TVs as long as you have an FTA satellite box or non subscription Digibox. One thing though, the Irish channels are encrypted so you won't get these on an FTA box.

Sully any Sky Box can receivce the Free to Air channels (all the BBCs, ITVs, C4, E4 Flm Four etc) without a sub card, as said for Irish channels you'll need a (prolly) rooftop ariel. If you can live without Pay sport, movies and the UKTV cluster (Dave, Alibi, Blighty etc) its free telly! :)

Thanks folks. I assume the mother was mistaken (she passed on the message) but she insisted that he told her no skybox was needed at all. Interesting to know, we have all these channels (I assume) on Sky anyway so no need to tune them in!

To find out what you will receive without a Sky subscription, simply take out the card, and reset the digibox. Whats left in the EPG is what you will get when you cancel your subscription with Sky.

Thread moved to Satellite, which would appear to be the most appropiate place for it notwithstanding it appearing to have originated with a comment from a deflector company to the OP.
