Driver Swing vs Iron Swing

    Question for everyone:

Do you feel your Driver swing is more or less the same as that which you use for irons? Or is your iron swing fundamentally different from your woods?

I ask because I have always felt as though I have needed to swing a little differently for my driver. Generally it involved more lateral movement thatn I would ever get away with for my irons. Now, I am finding that I am hitting my irons about as well as any time in the past. From 3 iron to 60 degree is smooth and accurate with generally near perfect contact. Yardages are pretty consistent and my short irons are gradually becoming more and more likely to yield easy birdie putts. (Putting still a whole other story of course! Missed the hole completely from 10 inches today!)

Yet my driving is about as wild as it's ever been. Every round seems to have at least two O/B or into trees and even when I hit it straight it's weak with no distance. My 3 wood comfortably out carries my driver now.

I realise that you can't pretend your driver is an iron since you need to be swinging upwards through impact, but I would be interested to see how anyone else compares their woods vs iron swings thoughts or feelings...

    Cheers!

I never really took too much notice of comparing to be honest as long as it felt like a fluid swing if you get my meaning. Lately though my driving swing is horific and my driving is gone terribly erratic while my iron shots are pretty good still, getting me out of a lot of trouble that my driver puts me into.
To say im perplexed about it all is an understatement. Im thinking a trip to the local pro to just work on my swing as a whole might be a good idea.

My driver swing and my iron swings are the same (except that my iron swings are a bit shorter for more control).

The only difference is setup.....other than that I don't make any changes. Ball position and stance are the only variables I use.

It's a good point actually and I had a think about it when swinging yesterday. I feel my driver/wood swing is a far more accomplished swing, less mechanical, smoother but that's a result of the larger arc and different set-up at address I reckon. Mentally I prefer my driver swing, visually I doubt it's much different.

It sounds like if you opted for a good lesson, range work and some improvement you will be scoring heavily very soon!

What I would give for 10" birdie putts to miss this early in the year!! :0)
