Just returned to college in September, looking increasingly unlikely I'll get a job in summer, have been working full time for three years previously.

I'm afraid not, you can't sign on if you are registered in full time education. Consider having a look at the Student Finances section.

It was a while back, but I told them my course was finished after 3rd year, as no-one knew when they finished their exams if they'd be going back for a 4th as it was dependent on your results.

I came here to ask the same question...although I am finished college in a few weeks, can i sign onto the dole as soon as i finish my finals?

All I'm saying is that's what I did the day after my last exam and they had to pay up.
