Depends what you like really, so many great cars out there and nearly all the manufacturers are offering specials.

I think Kia and Skoda give exceptional value for me.

Kia Ceed for example comes with a 7 year warranty, brillant 1.6 diesel, looks great, has loads of cool little gadgets like ipod and usb compatability and the dealers are suppose to very good to deal with.

You really have to test drive all of them before you make up your mind.Something like a Subaru Impreza diesel probably wouldn't have been on your list, but once you drive it and hear the price ( just 20k ) you wont be long changing your mind on it, loads of others like that.

I think the new Laguna is fabulous, much better looking than the megane imo, but of course its alot more expensive.

How much do you want to spend and what miles do you do etc?

Does it have to be a new car ,there are so many good 2nd hand one's out there you could have your pick, for what its worth (depending on budget ) but with three kids you cant go wrong with the new Mondeo, family motoring at the best, "good luck".:)

To be honest don't expect much for the Megane, they have a very bad reputation for reliability (how just or unjust that is for another debate). Given the Irish mentality to run away from any car with high mileage I would say to a dealer your Megane will be sale proof. A main dealer if he does take it as a trade in will probably only offer you trade value at best as more than likely he will offload it to the trade, ie smaller independant non franchised dealer network.

BTW I would also agree with others and not buy a brand new car, they loose a fortune in depreciation the minute they stick number plates on them, instead I would go for either a nearly new 09 demo or a 08, there are bargins to be had at the minute but they are not with brand new cars where the profit margin is tight.

Something like this Insignia. A high spec model will be the most resellable in 3-4 years.

Is the Megane at 90k miles or 90k kms?? If you want to sell fast put €5,500 on it and be willing to negotiate. Even the cheapest on Carzone are too overpriced and will be there a while. You'll save the difference on a cash buy anyway.

Renault are giving big discounts on most models at the moment. For instance list price for the Laguna 1.5 DCi is around 28-32k but you should be able to get a new one for around 20-23k. That's for a straight deal with no trade in.

Now if you try to trade in your Megane you might get a further 2-3 grand off the discounted price. IMO that is about as much extra as you could expect.

I'd say expect an appalling trade in for any recent car. Eg a relative is looking at trading in a 07 Focus and with his own car as part exchange is being offered around 10k off the *full list price* of a new Focus and other cars in the same class. Some dealers refuse point blank to even give a price.

ta for replys lads, anymore be great.

the car i have is 90k miles on it. my average miles per annum would be say 12/15k miles

a demo car, would i be the second owner on that?

the mondeo iv heard after 40k miles it needs a lot of new parts " i ve heard" but a nice car for sure. looks a beauty from behind. im usually following one.

skoda never thou of but looking on net seem great value. are they good runners, reliable, resaleable?

iv driven meganes since i first bought 1 that was 8 yr ago r so, iv updated each 2 yr since and misses has had 2 renaults aswell.
seems u get to like what u know sort a thing.

As mentioned above, look into the kia ceed if you want a nice reliable stones. A skoda octavia or focus diesel are good too. Skoda's are good cars-diesels very sellable. Dont want to be insulting but they'll be much better for your money than a megane...even though it is nice to hear from someone that is happy with theirs for a change...

How are the Octavia and Focus much better than the new Megane. If you're talking about the cars themselves then that's wrong. If you're talking about resale value - I've already given an example of the crappy trade in value of a recent Ford Focus. In the current economic climate there is no such thing as a car that is very sellable and anyone who buys a new car now based on getting "x" euros for it in a couple of years time is naive.

Look at the warrenty with the car some dealers only give 2 years, Toyota give 3 years and i think Kia give 5 years.

Be caefull as regards warranty's some car manafacturs, ie fiat, with the three year warranty have 1 year full, two year major part, 3rd year coversvery little be sure to ask for a breakdown of the warranty!

Kia have started to do a good trade in now too i think its €1000 on top of book value if your buying a new ceed.
