Can the size of in goal areas vary??

Some in goal areas in many GP grounds seem very small.

A quick google says it must not be less than 10 or more than 22 metres at either end.

They vary. Almost always depends on the size of the pitch, usually smaller on pitchs shared with soccer clubs and very big in stadiums like croke park.

The comparison between murrayfield and the madjeski or kingsholm is very big. Was watching highlights of edniburgh v cardiff last week and the big in goal means a kick through rugby league style is a very viable tactic. Im surprised the size hasnt been regulated, because it definately gives the home team who konws the ground some advantage.

I'd've just said it gives the attacking team an advantage.

No wouldnt agree there at all if the away team dont know the pitch or havent played on it before they wouldnt gain an advantage. Also defending a big in goal as the home team where you know this is there would definately be an advantage.

Don't really need to play on a pitch to know it's a little bigger than usual. Plus they're playing on variable-sized pitches week in week out, it's not as if there's just one field with a massive in-goal area that catches out the away teams.
