    hi all

was looking at a 42" philips ambilight series 7 lcd tv full hd 100hz today at a local agent in dungarvan €1088 picture quality was good but i have no doubt it was a hd film that was playing on the tv so the picture quality was good. was this a good price for this tv?
anyhow i would prefer a 47" or 50" tv but i would be looking for picture quality, the woman in the shop is getting a price for a 47" series 7 philips for me.

i have a budget of €1600 and was wondering what kind of tv could i get for this kind of twine and where?

    any thoughts would be appreciated.

picture quality is essential as thoose tvs with bad pictures just madden me.

    thanks
    colm

Hi Colm, have a look at www.richersounds.com ,there's a pioneer KRL46V LCD for £1450,which is 1610 euro approx or wait a few weeks for the Sony 46" W5500.They have a forum here under "Biz",£20 delivery for boards members.
If you're struck on a Phillips, give the Phillips shop on Dame st,ph 01 4740788, they are offering Boards members 10% off, they're connected with R.sounds through their M.D.

I am no expert in this area, but I saw 42" LCDs in Power City that were full HD and prices for Sharp, Samsung, Philips etc. started at €599. For 46" demo LCDs with full warrenty they started at €999 for similar makes. They were full HD 1080S. I do not know if they were 100Hz.

Perhaps they are a lower spec than the last poster is talking about. Like I said I am not an expert, but I have wired/installed/fitted plenty of them.

I'd echo Invincible, if Colm has €1600 budget then likely looking for a premium product like the Pioneer or Sony mentioned - Richersounds are good value!

after all we don't want to madden Colm with poor pic quality

Wouldnt get either of those sets to be honest. Note that neither of those has 100hz and seeing as they are both massive sets, motion judder would be very noticeable. And last years V4000 series was known for poor motion handling. I'd agree that you'd be better off going for a better specced 46" than a 52" like the ones you mentioned

    Colm,

I think you are standing very close to where I stood a few months ago, I was looking at a premium Sony KDL46X4500 but it was too expensive (€3000+) then the KDL46W4500 which was more reasonably priced and it had won awards for the best 46" from What HiFi

I think you should look at the winner and what I decided on 50" KRP 500A from Pioneer - more expensive than what your looking at but well worth it, but don't take my word for it, check it out on the web reviews

Richersounds did a good deal on this for me, but the stand and/or speakers are extra (Incidentaly my B&W FPM's are due in next week:D)

I just got the UE40B7000 from Komplett at 1500.
It just arrived yesterday so I'm still fiddling but it seems like a great tv.
It has Internet@tv and DNLA which basically means it has flickr, youtube etc and can play divx/xvid/mkv etc over the net/lan.
The blacks are amazing, I'm really impressed with the new mega contrast ratio and the fact that its only 29mm deep means it looks awesome.
I've not seen any bleeding from the LED backlighting.

    Definitely one to consider.
